The Yellow Brick Road
The title, ‘The Yellow Brick Road’, takes reference from the ‘The Wizard of Oz’. It suggests a course of action that a person takes believing that it will lead to good things, a path to success. Keeping this in mind, this series explores aspects of the constant tension between urbanization and environmentalism. It instigates ecological sensibility in an atmosphere of constant flux between the two sides. The layering of drawing and photography in the works provide visual clues for the problem as well as the solution to this contemporary concern in developing, urban societies. It urges towards a new urban culture such that the two can coexist, where the future is not jerrybuilt and growth is sustainable. As continued industrialisation and urbanisation continue to affect the quality of our environment and society, where does the yellow brick road lie?
